Biography
Dr. Geoffrey K. Turnbull is the Jim Heistand-NAIOP Eminent Scholar Chair and Professor of Real Estate at UCF. He is a Fellow of the Weimer School of Advanced Studies in Real Estate and Land Economics. Previous academic appointments include Professor of Economics at Georgia State University and Professor of Economics and the C. J. Brown Distinguished Professor of Real Estate at LSU. His current research on real property focuses on housing markets, real estate brokerage, property rights issues in developed and developing countries, and the effects of taxation and regulation on urban land use. He has published extensively in both real estate and economics journals on these and related topics and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, and Review of Regional Studies. Dr. James W. Turnbull, physician and surgeon, came to the starting point of his career well equipped by thorough training, and in the intervening years has been a close and discriminating student, quickly adopting those methods and measures which his judgment sanctions as of value in the work. He has practiced in Regina for some years and is held in high confidence and esteem by both his fellow practitioners and townsmen. He was born in Carleton county, Ontario, in 1876, a son of Robert Turnbull, extended mention of the family being made in the sketch of R. W. Turnbull on another page of this work.
In the pursuit of his education James W. Turnbull attended the public schools of Kemptville and Vankleek and upon the completion of his schooling he engaged in teaching school. He taught in Ontario for four years and in 1898 came to Regina, Saskatchewan, and taught there and in the schools at Strathcona and Red Deer until 1902.
