Plot

Dean Youngblood, a 17-year-old farmhand from rural New York, has dreams of playing in the National Hockey League. Dean voices these dreams to his father who disapproves; however, Dean's brother, Kelly, convinces their father to relent. Dean travels to Canada to try out for the Hamilton Mustangs where he demonstrates his offensive skills but displays a lack of physical toughness.

Dean earns the nickname "Pretty Boy" brought on by his rivalry with fellow hockey player Carl Racki. Racki, who is competing for a spot, engages him in a fight and quickly defeats him. Despite this, the Mustangs head coach, a former NHL All-Star, selects Dean for the team. Dean begins a flirtation with the coach's daughter, Jessie.

She also appeared in the films Youngblood (1986), Salvador (1986), Malone (1987), Short Circuit 2 (1988) and Death Warrant (1990). She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Gypsy Rose Lee in the film Gypsy (1993).

Cynthia Lowrie Gibb^[1] was born December 14, 1963,^[2] in Bennington, Vermont, U.S.^[1] and grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and attended Staples High School.

Career

At the age of 14, she began assignments with the Ford Modeling Agency in New York City.^[3] She was on the cover of Vogue and Young Miss magazines. She was cast for her first film role in 1980, as a Young Fan in the Woody Allen film Stardust Memories.^[4]

This perky, wholesome actress has found more success in TV-movies and series than in feature films. The New Englander began modeling and doing bit parts in high school (including her film debut in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories," 1980). Upon graduation, Gibb landed a role as a scatter-brained teen in "Search for Tomorrow" (CBS, then NBC 1981-83), which led directly to another teen role, an ambitious WASP in "Fame" (syndicated, 1983-86). Gibb entered films in 1986, playing three roles that year: in the Rob Lowe starrer "Youngblood," as a Catholic woman raped and murdered by the death squads in Oliver Stone's "Salvador" and in the teen comedy "Modern Girls." She generally has exhibited intelligence and ability in rather unremarkable films, including "Malone" (1987), "Jack's Back" (1988), "Short Circuit 2" (1988) and "Death Warrant" (1990).
