Ken Gormley was installed as the 13th president of Duquesne University in July 2016. As president, he has emphasized the University's historic mission to foster ethical behavior and dialogue through a series of public events focused on civil discourse. Through his leadership, Duquesne has continued to rise as a top-tier national University. 

In 2022, Gormley launched the public phase of IGNITE: Forging the Future, the University's most ambitious — and already most successful — capital campaign. That same year, Gormley also announced the largest gift in University history from alumnus Thomas R. Kline, one of the nation's most influential and highly regarded trial lawyers, which provides transformational support to Duquesne's 111-year-old law school. Duquesne recognized the gift by naming its law school the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University.

Kenneth Gerald Gormley (born March 19, 1955)[1][2] is an American lawyer and academic who is the 13th president of Duquesne University. He is a former dean and a professor of constitutional law at Duquesne University School of Law.[3] He is also a legal counsel for the Appellate Practice Group at the law firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP.[4] His scholarly work focuses particularly on the Watergate scandal and special prosecutors.[5]

Career

Kenneth Gerald Gormley was born in Pittsburgh on March 19, 1955, and grew up in nearby Swissvale and Edgewood.[2] He earned a B.A. in political science and philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1980.[2]

I was the first person in my family to be born in Pittsburgh. My brothers and sisters have always said that this accounts for my “irrational” loyalty to the city.

My dad grew up on a farm in Kentucky and was the odd person in his family—the one who left home to get a Ph.D. in chemistry at New York University. That’s where he met my mom.

Mom was the daughter of Italian immigrants and went to Hunter College when my dad was student-teaching there. Eventually, they got married and ended up in Pittsburgh because it was located halfway between both of their hometowns, and they could visit relatives from both sides for vacations.

My dad’s first job was as a chemist at Mellon Institute, and my mom became a third-grade teacher at St. Anselm’s in Swissvale. That’s where I grew up, on the edge of Swissvale and Edgewood. But even though my mom and dad were both educated, we still viewed ourselves as milltown folk.
