Childhood and Early Life

Chinese golfer Guan Tianlang was born on the 25 October 1998 to Hong Yu and Han Wen in Guangzhou, China.




Education

Guan Tianlang is a student at the University of Arizona and is a member of the university’s golf team.

Rise to Fame

At a young age, Guan Tianlang was taught to play golf by his father. As a junior and amateur golfer, he had a lot of success. He made history by becoming the youngest golfer to win the China Amateur Futures Tour in 2010, the China Amateur Tour in 2011 and the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships: Boys 11-12 Division in 2011.

Career

Guan Tianlang was 13 when he again made history by being the youngest player to participate in the European Tour when he played at the 2012 Volvo China Open.

He won the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand the same year, and in 2013, at the age of 14, he played at the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia in the USA, again the youngest player to have done so. He finished 12th.

Guan qualified for the Masters by winning the 2012 Asian-Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand. At just a young age, Guan is already earning the admiration by some of the older competitors, including Tiger Woods and Ben Crenshaw. His future is bright, and I have a feeling he will be a major player on the PGA Tour in no time.

Guan Tianlang (Chinese: 关天朗; pinyin: Guān Tiānlǎng; born 25 October 1998) is a Chinese amateur golfer.

Career

Guan qualified for the 2013 Masters Tournament by winning the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Thailand. On 12 April 2013, he became the youngest player to make the cut in PGA Tour history and play in 2013 Masters. At 14 years, 5 months of age, Guan is the youngest to make the cut in a major championship.[1] Previously, the youngest was Italian Matteo Manassero, who did it at the 2009 Open Championship at 16 years, 2 months.[2]

Before the tournament, Guan played practice rounds with Ben Crenshaw and Tiger Woods, both of whom were full of praise for the youngster. Woods said, "It's frightening to think that he was born after I won my first Masters. I mean, that's just frightening. It's exciting that I have inspired kids to play and not just here in the States but obviously in China and around the world."[3]
