Johannes stoetter biography

Johannes Stoetter is an Italian visual artist who participated in Series 14 of Britain's Got Talent.

He auditioned with a set of models who he had painted in such a way that, when held in a certain pose, they appeared as if they were sea mammals. The audition was covered by a monologue from Sir David Attenborough on the subject of the pollution of the oceans, and slowly each 'animal' was revealed to be a painted person. Alesha described the act as 'Very powerful', with Amanda adding 'It's unique'. Stoetter advanced onto the following round, however failed to reach the Semi-Finals.

Before BGT[]

In 2018, Stoetter competed on the 5th series of Italian competition series ‘Tu Si Que Vales’.[1]

In 2019, Stoetter competed on a Chinese talent show named 'Beyond Belief'.

After BGT[]

Additionally in 2020, Stoetter competed on the 15th season of ‘France's Got Talent’, however he was eliminated following the first Semi-Final.[2]

In 2021, Stoetter competed on the 15th season of ‘Germany's Got Talent’, where he was eliminated in the Deliberations.[3]

About the history of body painting

Body painting has a long history in the development of humanity from the Stone Age (possibly even earlier) to the present day. In fact, it originally served as jewelry, but it often also served the function of conveying signals, for example to indicate sexual maturity, mood or even warlike attitude to other members of a tribe. Body painting thus partially replaced the missing signal colors that are often naturally present in other groups of the animal kingdom, such as in birds. But body painting can also be an expression of artistic creation.

Body painting in modern arts and as optical illusions, e.g. as animal imitations to represent our biodiversity

At this point I would like to introduce the Italian artist Johannes Stötter in more detail. I do this as someone who works artistically myself, but also as someone who is committed to biodiversity research as a biologist. Stötter is known, among other things, for his impressive and sometimes even moving animal motifs, which are usually made up of the painted bodies of several people.

Johannes Stötter

Johannes Stötter is a true artist. He was born into a family of musicians in southern Tyrol in Italy. Besides his body painting art, he plays the violin, the flute and the bouzouki in the Celtic national band "Burning Mind". After his studies of philosophy at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, he initiated several projects in which he combined art with music.

In 2009, the Tyrolean joined the international body painting community. He also took part in the first Bodypainting World Championships. Stötter won many prizes in the following year. In 2012, he became World Champion of Bodypainting, vice world champion in 2011 and 2014. In the years 2011 and 2013, he won the Italian championship. Stötter also established his reputation internationally. In 2013, he emerged as winner of the North American Bodypainting Championship of the USA, of Atlanta and of Georgia. The “International Fine Art Bodypainting Award” in 2014 rounded off the success.

The public knew him in 2013 due to a portrait of a tropical frog consisting of five human bodies. As a result, television
