A tribute to the Late Professor Eldred Durosimi Jones

In April 1993, at the memorial service of my late Father, the Rev Canon Professor Edward William Fashole-Luke1, Professor Eldred Jones said inter alia the following " I should not be giving this tribute to one of my star pupils. I would have expected Edward to be giving this tribute to his me his teacher who taught him firstly at the CMS Grammar School and then at Fourah Bay College."
Professor Eldred Jones was born on the 6th of January 1925. He passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday 21st March 2020 aged 95 years.
He attended the famous CMS Grammar school, and then came to Fourah Bay College, then part of the University of Durham where he obtained a good Division 11 degree. After a stint teaching at the CMS Grammar school, he went to Christ Church College at the University of of Oxford where he distinguished himself with an upper Second class degree narrowly missing a First Class degree from that most venerable institution.
