Born at Dolgam, Cwmllynfell, 1864. He was educated at the village school, after which he worked in the coal mines from the age of 13 until he was 21. He began to write poetry at an early age, winning many prizes at local literary gatherings and eisteddfodau. By the time he was 13 he had mastered the art of cynghanedd, and when he was 21 won the bardic chair at Tredegar for his awdl on Virtue (Rhinwedd). He went to a seminary at Llansawel, Carmarthenshire, in 1885, and was at Bala Independent college, 1886-8. He then became minister of Bwlchgwyn and Llandegla, 1888-91, and Panteg, Ystalyfera, 1891-1926. He came into prominence as one of the 'new school' of poets, 1890-6, winning the chief prizes in the national eisteddfod - the crown at Rhyl (but with only half the prize), 1892, Pontypridd, 1893, Caernarvon, 1894, and the chair

Benjamin Thomas Davies (born 24 April 1993) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as a left-back and centre-back for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the Wales national team.
Davies is an academy graduate of Swansea City, a Welsh club based in Swansea who play in the English football league system, also joining Danish club Viborg FF's academy while his family lived in Denmark. He made his professional debut for Swansea City in the second Premier League game of the 2012–13 season against West Ham United, scoring his first professional goal in a 3–1 Premier League win against Stoke City in January 2013. In the 2013–14 season, Davies was once again a regular for Swansea City.
In July 2014, Davies was signed by Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee, making his debut for Tottenham in a Europa League game against Cypriot sid

Benjamin Keith Davies (born 11 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or left-back for EFL League One club Birmingham City, on loan from Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
Davies spent most of his early career with Preston North End, and had loan spells with York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County and Fleetwood Town. He moved to Liverpool in 2021, but never played for the club and was loaned to Sheffield United before he was sold to Scottish club Rangers in 2022.
