Senior Deputy Governor

Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina

Senior Deputy Governor, Nepal Rastra Bank

As the Senior Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, the position I have held since March 9, 2021, I firmly believe that honesty, perseverance, and hard work are the cornerstones of shaping one's identity. In my view, moral integrity and honesty are the true treasures in a person's life. I was born on 29th November, 1968 (14th Mangsir, 2025 BS) in Damak Municipality, Jhapa, Ward No. 13. From a young age, I was a diligent and hardworking student. Both of my parents were engaged in the holy profession of enlightening the students, as my father was a secondary School Supervisor, and my mother was a school teacher. In our household, we managed all the domestic tasks ourselves, from caring for livestock to growing vegetables and helping in the kitchen. Time management was challenging, especially with the one-hour walk to school. Despite, the educational atmosphere at home instilled in me a strong sense of duty to channelize my education for the benefit of my country.

Guided by Honesty,

Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina: The Florence Nightingale of Central Banking – Leading Nepal’s Financial Health with Vision, Compassion, and Unwavering Dedication.

It is with immense pride, admiration, and profound respect that I write this testimonial for Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina. Her high echelon career in central banking, marked by an unwavering commitment to economic stability and financial development, has not only shaped the future of Nepal’s economy but has also been an inspiration to countless individuals, myself included.

I have had the pleasure of observing Dr. Dhungana rise from her early academic pursuits to her appointment as the first female Senior Deputy Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Throughout her journey, one consistent theme has been her unrelenting dedication to preparation, a trait exemplified by Benjamin Franklin’s wise words: “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” Dr. Dhungana has lived by this principle, making strategic planning and thoughtful foresight the cornerstones of her leaders

Timsina, who joined Rashtra Bank in 2054 BS as an assistant director, has an MBA degree from Tribhuvan University, another master’s degree in economics from Australia, and a PhD in management from Rajasthan, India.
