Beginning in 1992, when his group New Klezmer Trio “kicked open the door for radical experiments with Ashkenazi roots music” (SF Chronicle), clarinetist Ben Goldberg has established himself as “one of the most vibrant, flexible, and inventive clarinetists in jazz and improvised music” (Downbeat). NPR calls Ben “an artist who seems to find beautiful melodies at the end of every path,” and The New York Times has noted his music for “a feeling of joyous research into the basics of polyphony and collective improvising.” After twice being named Rising Star Clarinetist in the Downbeat Critics Poll, he now consistently places in the top two in the Clarinet category. Ben has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, and the Shifting Foundation.

Ben Goldberg is a New York-based composer who has received awards for his concert music, film music, and academic achievements. He has been the Composer-in-Residence for the Garden State Philharmonic and Baltimore chamber orchestra Symphony Number One. Goldberg has won composition competitions held by the American Prize in Composition, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Joliet Symphony Orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, and Susanville Symphony. He's enjoyed a special partnership with the Central Ohio Symphony. They have premiered five of his works including Reconnecting scored for Drum Circle and Orchestra. Reconnecting has been featured in Symphony magazine, and at presentations for The League of American Orchestras and Percussive Arts Society national conferences. He has given multiple presentations of his works at the Juilliard School, and was a composer fellow at UC Davis.

Ben Goldberg (born August 8, 1959) is an American clarinet player and composer.

Career

In the early 1990s, Ben Goldberg performed alongside electric bassist Dan Seamans and percussionist Kenny Wollesen as the New Klezmer Trio.[1] They went on to produce three albums and the free improvisation on "Masks and Faces" was described as having "kicked open the door for radical experiments with Ashkenazi roots music." Goldberg's musicality has influenced and inspired local musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Goldberg is also the founder of the music label BAG Production.[2]
