born March 16, 1974 in Stockholm, is a Swedish actor appearing in numerous Swedish films and TV series. Birth Name Johan Olof Widerberg Height 5' 7" (1.70 m) Johan Widerberg is the son of Swedish director Bo Widerberg. He was casted as a part in Ocean's Twelve which the director Steven Soderbergh, in the final script, had to cut out. Eventually Johan turned out as an extra in the film. Trivia Johan Widerberg is the son of director Bo Widerberg In the theatre, Widerberg recently played Dorian Gray, the lead, in a production of Oscar Wilde's "The picture of Dorian Gray". 1999: Named as one of European films 'Shooting Stars' by European Film Promotion.

Johan Widerberg

Johan Widerberg kicked off his acting career at a young age, starring in one of his father’s (Bo Widerberg) films Man on the Roof (1976). During his career Widerberg has been nominated for ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ at The Guldbagge Awards – for Love Lessons (1996), Under the Sun (1999), Happy End (2012) – and awarded with the Prize for ‘Best Actor’ at The Rouen Nordic Film Festival in 1996.

In recent years, Widerberg has portrayed many celebrated characters in Swedish TV series. In the lauded series Springfloden (2016-2018) he played the quirky informant Minken, in Missing (2017) he portrayed Pastor Stein and in hit series Bäckström (2020) he played the role of scout leader Haqvin Furuhjelm.

2022 saw the premiere of the HBO series Lust wherein Widerberg starred as the overly politically correct husband Rasmus, as well as the acclaimed Discovery + series Vi i villa, with Widerberg in the part as the unpleasant bully Martin. He was praised for his stand-out performances and ability to embody a wide range of characters.

Biography

Johan Olof Widerberg was born on 16 March 1974. His parents were Bo Widerberg, the famous director and Ann-Christin Santesson. He grew up on Stora Essingen in Stockholm. Johan was an introverted child, but in spite of that he early on followed his dad Bo to film festivals and film locations and he had his first role at one year old in Bo’s film “The man on the roof”. His older siblings Nina and Martin, children from an earlier marriage of Bo’s have also been in Bo’s films, as well as Johan’s mom. In 1984 Johan yet again had a part in one of dad’s films, this time “The man from Mallorca”. With Bo’s help and a friend who was going to be an extra, Johan 1985 got a small part in Lasse Hallströms film “My Life As a Dog”. The next film was “Ormens väg på hälleberget”, also this time with Bo as director. Following this film, Bo took a break from film making. The break turned out to last until Bo and Johan decided to do “All things fair”.
