Peter Rice (executive)

Peter Rice (born 1966) is a British producer and media executive. He is the former chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content for The Walt Disney Company and former president of 21st Century Fox, where he worked from 1989-2019.[1]
Early life
Rice was born in the United Kingdom in 1966 and raised in Britain.[2] He earned a degree from the University of Nottingham in 1989.[2]
Career
Fox
Rice began his career at Twentieth Century Fox in 1989, working for Tom Sherak, then head of U.S. distribution and marketing for Fox Filmed Entertainment.[3] In 2000, Rice became President of Fox Searchlight Pictures, beginning in 2000.[4] From 2007 to 2008, he simultaneously oversaw Fox Atomic, which created comedy and genre films, including Turistas and 28 Weeks Later. Fox Atomic was closed in 2009, after Rice moved to Fox's television business.[5][6]

If you don’t know Peter Rice, you should know that it is thanks to his skills as a structural engineer that some of the most iconic architectural works of the last century have seen the light of day. Buildings that are part of the collective imagination such as the Sydney Opera House, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Louvre Pyramid, and the Lloyd’s Headquarters in London.
Born in Dublin on 16 June 1935, he grew up between the town of Dundalk and the villages of Gyles’ Quay and Inniskeen in Ireland. He went on to study at Queen’s University in Belfast and then at Imperial College London. The roof of the Sydney Opera House was his first project. In that extremely complex architectural and engineering work, Rice showed his ability to make Jørn Utzon’s futuristic ideas possible.

Irish structural engineer (1935–1992)
Peter Rice (Peter Ronan Rice, 16 June 1935 – 25 October 1992) was an Irishstructural engineer.[1]
Born in Dublin, he grew up in 52 Castle Road, Dundalk in County Louth, and spent his childhood between the town of Dundalk, and the villages of Gyles' Quay and Inniskeen. He was educated at Queen's University of Belfast where he received his primary degree and spent a year at Imperial College London. Rice acted as Structural Engineer on three of the most important architectural works of the 20th century: the Sydney Opera House (with Ove Arup), Pompidou Centre and the Lloyd's Building and was renowned for his innate ability to act as both engineer and designer.
He originally studied Aeronautical Engineering but switched to Civil Engineering. Taken on by Ove Arup & Partners, his first job was the roof of the Sydney Opera House. He married Sylvia Watson in 1960[2] and they had one son (who became an engineer) and three daughters.
